La Pomme d'Or means the Golden Apple. In the eighteenth and nineteenth century La Pomme d'Or was a humble farm. Today the property consists of three buildings - The Guesthouse, The Stable and The Gatehouse. The oldest building is The Guesthouse. It is a charming rustic house where the farmer lived with his family. The Stable is the original barn. It has been converted into a modern studio. The Stable also houses a small art gallery, which we call The Barn. The Gatehouse is a nineteenth century addition to the property. La Pomme d'Or grow many different fruit and vegetables on site and where possible we try to use them for our meals. Enjoy apples, plums, strawberries, peaches, squash, tomatoes and salads direct from the garden. La Cure means The Vicarage. Today the property consists of 2 houses. Originally there was only one house. Today we call the original house The Little House (La Petite Cure). The Little House was used for the priest, who lived on the ground floor and Sunday school was held upstairs. As the priests importance grew, the Church decided to build the more imposing stone Vicarage (La Grande Cure) which was built in the nineteenth century. Our oasis is located in the small village of La Chapelle Moulière, beautifully situated between the river Vienne and the Moulière Forest. In the village you will find a restaurant and bar that offer a selection of local dishes. The village also has a tennis court and a place where you can play boule. The towns and villages in the area are steeped in history and culture. The region is the heart of the agricultural district of France with farmers cultivating a variety of corn, sunflowers, maize and rapeseed produce. In this area you will find many producers of goats milk cheese and the Chabichou is considered to be the best in the country. The wine area is called Haut Poitou and offers many good wines. The shops and markets offer a wonderful selection of local produce of every description. All you need for a mouth-watering experience. |
